Quotes From the Community:
"I am a mother whose children were once a part of this great organization. My sons are now wise young men and are who they are today, because of the mentoring of Patrick & Hazel Simmons.
Mother of two sons
"Y-MOT has changed my life alot, the neighborhood I live in has a lot of drug dealers and violence. The direction I was headed in was death or jail because I was caught up in my surroundings.
Since I became involved in Y-MOT, I have been taught the meaning of honesty, kindness and loyalty.
Everyday I wake up I pray and thank God for allowing me to see another day of life. I'm glad I have a fresh start to live my life without the drugs and disrepect in my life. I thank God for Y-MOT."
Neighborhood Youth
"Y-MOT has given my child a sense of pride and reasonability, my child has grown from an unconcerned kid to a responsible and respectful young man" - Concerned Parent
"The kids of Y-MOT receive chances to attend events that most kids never get to attend had it not been for the Y-MOT team. To have this program in our community is a blessing." -
Neighborhood Parent
The staff of Y-MOT are diligent, selfless and have a passion for seeing students be successful. - Middle School Principal
It is my opinion that without these activities many of the students that his organization serves would be in mischief daily or in juvenile court." - High School Principal
"We value our partnership with Y-MOT. We believe this program adds value to the community and gives our youth a constructive alternative to all the other negative influences that they can fall prey to." - Community Bank Supervisor
"One person can make a difference in the world and as long as we have individuals striving to provide outlets for low-to-moderate income youth like the ones Y-MOT create, we will continue to be able to make a difference in the lives of inner-city children who might otherwise succumb to desiring less out of life." - Newspaper Reporter
Our History
Patrick grew up in the Lakeview Gardens Community around the temptations of gangs that are also present in the neighborhood today.
He attributes growing up without a positive male figure in his life for fueling his passion to reach out to today's youth.
In 1996, he began reaching out to kids in the neighborhood housing developments and was blessed to receive a three-year UYI grant to fund his outreach efforts.
It was during this time that he met and married his lovely wife, Hazel who immediately began to serve along side of him in ministry.
In 1999, they raised the funds to operate the ministry and even traded their car in for a 15-passenger van in order to transport the youth in the neighborhood to various local and out of town activities and camps around the nation.
Minister Simmons is now a licensed and ordained minister of the Gospel, who believes that his purpose in life is to minister to urban youth in the community who struggle with the same temptations that he once had to overcome.
In May of 2007, they incorporated
Y-MOT as a non-profit charitable organization as a vehicle to address the needs of our community.
Together, Min. Patrick and Mrs. Hazel are faithfully using the gifts, talents and resources that they have been blessed with; to make a difference in the lives of the youth they encounter on a daily basis.
With the favor of God and the help of faithful supporters Y-MOT is implementing it's strategic growth plan and vision to further evangelize, disciple and empower urban youth throughout the 38109 zip code and it's surrounding areas.
They are also developing plans to expand the programs throughout the greater Memphis area.
